In memory of Rachael Helmore we have established a sponsored and more formal version of our Mentoring Program. Rachael tragically died in 2023 and we’ve had many people contact us including Christie’s London where Rachael was successful in attaining a paid internship through Sydney University. Staff at Christie’s London declared her their best intern ever, and have generously offered to sponsor the program along with the Helmore family.

Rachael initiated the program at Scratch in 2018. We have already completed five mentor programs in 2018, 2019, 2020, and post COVID, 2024. Our current candidate is Tina Wheatley who is currently  exhibiting her work in the gallery and will be giving an Artist Talk on Sunday 3 November at 12pm. After her talk we will officially launch the Mentorship.

The mentorship is for a fully sponsored solo exhibition for two weeks and includes –

  • Two studio visits by Scratch Artist or guest curator to guide and provide feedback to Artists’ creative progress, and preparation for the show.

What is the material foundation of my practice? Advice on how to consider the Exhibition space in relation to the work, finance and budgeting advice, and Marketing & promotion.
