Giorgia de Biasi
Opening Event / Saturday 7 July, 3 – 5pm
Runs 5 – 15 July 2018
Giorgia uses performative practices to consider the paradox of measuring the immeasurable. Her process-oriented work is often driven by chance.
She draws on sport, scientific and geographic practices to represent a communion between the self and the unknown, and the limits of control. She often represents this using types of navigation and communication situated within real and imagined landscapes.
Giorgia’s works are often an encoding of subjective or inner experience documented through physical and quantitative processes associated with the event and the phenomenon.
After a previous career in the earth sciences, Giorgia recently graduated with first class Honours in Visual Art from Sydney College of the Arts.
Giorgia is a Sydney artist.
Five years, that’s so long ago, with the faintest allusion of like who remembers anything that happened 5 yrs ago, I mean that’s ancient history isn’t it, you just get on with it like a proper grown up, jesus can she just grow up, there’s seaweed in the propeller, stubborn leathery strands from the deep snagging those extra hp you never used to question, i thought I filled up the tank yesterday, the surface has been buffed free of scuffs they call it a patina I think, a pretty word for old, close your eyes and breathe and run your hand and just there across your flat palm is the dip (vast expanse) in the grain a momentary sticky resistance to the triumphant glissando of a high functioning life, that treasure of modernity
the cyclone swell drops off over the ocean trenches didn’t you know, you thought you’d sail through it all this time, a clear morning & the sweet long-sought taste of freedom after all? a day passes and brings the gift, the cool soft heavy drag over the faintest deep bruise of a memory as old and rough as existence itself, an inescapable re-visioning of the last breath, and a galaxy with broken hearts for stars.
