True North is an exhibition is by a group of artists known as ‘The Experimental Artists’ (TEA) that have been students at Hazelhurst Regional Gallery for over ten years.

Their exhibition concept is a continuing theme that threads its way through the group as part of their collective creative story. True North is used as a metaphor for their personal explorations to find a creative compass.

The exhibition explores art created during or in reaction to either shared subjective investigations or actual journeys. Some are formed in response to travel diaries, photographs, field sketching, memories and nature. The ideas are highlighted by the diverse practices within the ‘TEA’ group.

Traditional techniques such as watercolour & acrylic painting have been employed, along with more contemporary approaches, including abstraction, burning, mixed media, graphic styles, collage/travel ephemera.

Experimenting in our art making is fundamental to extending and developing our arts practice both individually and as a group.

The Experimental Artists have previously held two group shows at Hazelhurst Regional Gallery.
