David Kirk

Landscape painter David Kirk has, over the past three decades, captured vast amounts of Australia’s eastern coast in his bold and vivid compositions. Gestural and raw, Kirk declares his preference of un-tortured works which apply an almost symbolic approach to features of the natural surrounds.

Expressive works are realised within a restrained palette, grey-white wisps of sandy dunes and wave crests blow about, with shadowed trees and branches to the fore. Kirk manages a sketch-like essence, following the flow of paint and energy across the canvas.

First exhibiting in 1991 after graduating from City Art Institute (renamed to COFA), Kirk has held solo shows at galleries throughout Sydney including Project 90, Duck Rabbit, Michael Commerford, Washhouse and has appeared in group shows from Brisbane to Bowral.
