Silk & Stanford

Opening Event . Wednesday 15 May, 6 – 8pm
Runs . 16 – 26 May, 2024

With decades of research, innovative thinking and creative practice between them, this site-specific installation is the brainchild of collaborators Dr Melissa Silk and Dr Sue-Ann Stanford. Describing their installation as experimental and ephemeral, Silk & Stanford will transform our space into an electronic wonderland, evoking the idea of “boat”. Exploiting the immaterialities and materialities of media, creating an environment that folds time into real and imagined images, and real and imagined sound using the metaphor of a boat in which to hold the experience.

Silk has worked with many thinkers and makers over her career to design experiences that embed the Arts in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEAM). She is co-director of STEAMpop.zone while also engaged in research contributing to learning ecologies spanning creative intelligence and innovation, transdisciplinary education, and designing for preferred futures.

Silk’s co-pilot for this installation is positioned as the Dean of JMC Academy, Stanford, who specialises in education management with over 20 years experience in the vocational education and higher education sector. Throughout her career Stanford has lead teams of highly skilled people, including academics, subject matter experts, instructional designers to develop and deliver innovative and engaging learning experience and innovate product lines and delivery modes, developing HE courses for re-accreditation.
