Three Sydney figurative artists have joined together for group show, Go Figure. With diverse approaches to the subject matter, their ideas, styles and techniques make for a dynamic exhibition of two and three dimensional work.

Anne Kwasner Looks at how, as individuals and a community, we understand ourselves through the artefacts that we live with. Acknowledging the strength of the bonds we create with our things, our possessions. She draws her inspiration from archival images of people, places, and upcycled ceramics found in opportunity shops. Anne hand builds her 3-dimensional and build objects and uses a variety of ceramics techniques to draw on the these and her upcycled plates.

Michelle Connolly looks to find order in the chaos that is created in her studio; she works on multiple creations simultaneously using various materials. Often the found materials dictates the direction of the work and paintings and drawings relate to sculptural figures that hang on her studio wall. She has an organic approach to image making with little planning, working intuitively. Much of her work is figurative and explores the psyche and personality of characters created in the artworks.

Samantha Tidbeck sets her works mainly within her own domestic interior, with it’s own beings and objects cast as players for possible drama and storytelling. Paintings are typically of humble subject matter with treatment and arrangements that command a concession to beauty while maintaining a frank and unromantic telling. Samantha’s practice is based in traditional drawing and oil painting techniques with a focus on rich colour and high tonal contrast.
