Exclusive to our art course alumni
Opens again in 2024
Our Open Studio Sessions are an opportunity to extend your visual art practice. For these sessions there is no structured teaching as for the beginner classes but more of a mentor and peer to peer structure with a professional Artist on hand to assist, and other students to help play with ideas. We have a well equipped studio including a photocopier for working out compositions, or to simply experiment on your works to find your way through any blocks or problems that need solving.
The size of the new studio provides an opportunity to work on a large scale, and emulate how a typical artist studio works where instead of packing and taking works in progress home, students can leave works here and return and pick up where they left.
The open sessions caters for all level of skills where you get to work together on individual projects with individual attention. If you feel you still need to be set exercises we can do that or if you have unfinished drawings, including life drawings, and need help to work out what to do next this is the perfect format for you.
We can help you expand on an idea to create a project of works that could begin with a series of study drawings that ends up as a painting (acrylic or oil), a collage, or a drawing project. Bring your own materials and we can supplement with any new materials that might help you extend your visual vocabulary and skills.
Modelled on a professional art practice, classes are three hours and run Saturdays 1 – 4pm across four consecutive weeks, in a well-equipped studio with lots of natural light. Materials are not included and booking is essential.
This is an open studio with artist Carmel Byrne, and a few guest artists all professionally trained and experienced in conceptual as well as skills-based resolutions.
