As a mixed media artist, Natalie’s practice has been enriched in recent years through connecting with her core self and embracing personal experiences, confronting injury and illness, to find a place of celebration in all that makes her colourful and unique.

Natalie’s painting is bright and bold, inserting ethereal colour palettes in place of earthy representational hues, conjuring a dream-like quality. She describes her approach as viewing the world through rose-tinted glasses, attempting to capture and convey the beauty she perceives.

This body of work was inspired by a close friendship spanning 30 years, following a decade of living apart in different towns or cities. In a process unique to the artist and muse, they strengthen their connection through creating shared experiences, one imagined by Natalie and one experienced by Suzie. Drawing from her friend’s storied adventures aided by photos and videos, Natalie is transported into a new fantastical place, conjuring up her own presence as the observer and then saturated by her loving friendship and self acceptance.

Natalie’s work has been featured in the Tim Copes Watercolour Prize and The Agency Still Life Prize.
