“Without sundering no arrival. Without dispossession no return.” – Richard Kearny
Mind and body travel at different rates. Whether embedded in the subconscious or actively considered we maintain a reluctance to leave any place. A sense of plotting and exploring is inherent to even the most stagnant creatures.
On the journey we encounter wondrous detours by taking the longer or higher road. There are risks involved; some suffered, some avoided, all experienced and that is the enduring reward. Packing it in and starting afresh creates space for discovering and reinvention. Something to anticipate and later reminisce.
Road stories we remember or document distort with time. By suspending them with the help of beautiful machines we provide a temporary sense of permanence; like an amaranth – an imaginary flower that never fades. The grass is always greener and we propel ourselves fast from the city to the wilderness and back again just as quickly.
Sounds of passing traffic emanate as a story is spun of vehicular wanderlust as told by a voice gravely as the asphalt beneath our feet. Breakdown, breakup, fended bumper bar, new love, an overheated engine, heart and mind is what unfolds.
