Tina Wheatley Artist Talk

Artist Talk Sunday 3 November @ 12pm

As part of our Mentor Program and the 2024 Inner West Creative Trails, Tina will present an insight into her solo exhibition Burnout with an Artist Talk.

“Through slow and contemplative processes of knitting and crochet, I am exploring experiences of cyclical and fragmented time, as these creative processes are intertwined with tasks of caring for family”.

Tina will also touch on her experience exhibiting at the Autumn Art Fair in Jingdezhen, China.
This solo exhibition has been part of the 2024 Scratch Art Space Mentorship Program.

Presenting a new series of works which inhabit the gallery, jarring the space with their amorphism, cocoon like presence, hanging above or around the edges of the walls, connected to one another by threads and ropes, sinews, and strands. The artist enjoys the ambiguity of the objects she creates whereby the manner of their display does not affect their interpretation. Whether they are displayed on white plinths within a white gallery space, or if they are draped on lounge chairs and coffee tables in a domestic setting, they are unfamiliar objects that don’t quite belong. They interrupt the space with their oddness.

The material processes of her work provide the artist with a visual language for investigating relationships between time, labour, care, craft, object, and value, and what may be culturally ascribed to ‘women’s work.’
